Tabu is a critically acclaimed Indian actress celebrated for her selective role choices and powerful performances primarily in Hindi cinema, alongside work in regional and international films. Widely regarded as one of the finest actresses of her generation, she holds a record four Filmfare Critics Awards for Best Female Performer and has won the National Film Award for Best Actress twice (for Chandni Bar and Maachis). While she has made select appearances in major commercial hits like Border and Hum Saath-Saath Hain, she is best known for her compelling work in acclaimed arthouse and parallel cinema—including standout performances in Virasat, Astitva, Maqbool, Cheeni Kum, and Mira Nair's American film The Namesake.
